Notes from the studio, twice a month

A short letter about what is on the easel, which series is drying, and when the next commission window opens. Useful if you are weighing a canvas against a print, or waiting on a specific view of the Karoo or the coastline.

  • New work listed before it reaches the shop pages
  • Edition sizes and remaining numbers as they run down
  • Commission dates, palette notes and framing options

Leave an email and I will send the studio letter. No forwarding, no third parties, and you can step out at any time with one reply.

Reaching the studio

Questions about a specific canvas, a print edition, or a commission slot usually get answered the same day. If you are unsure which series suits a room, describe the wall and the light and we can point you to two or three works worth a closer look.

Studio address
109 Helen Hill Apt. 815
New Refilwechester, GP 7871

Studio hours

  • Monday to Thursday 09:00 - 16:30
  • Friday 09:00 - 13:00
  • Saturday By appointment
  • Sunday and public holidays Closed

Visitors are welcome, but a call ahead helps — the studio doubles as the packing bench, and large canvases are often laid out across the floor.

How to get in touch

  • Email for edition availability, shipping quotes and commission enquiries.
  • Phone during studio hours for anything time-sensitive, such as a held painting.
  • Written requests for a specific view or palette are reviewed before each commission window opens.

Questions that come up before a purchase

Most of what collectors ask concerns shipping, editions and how a commission actually runs. If your situation is not covered here, the studio answers email directly and usually within two working days.

How do canvas originals arrive?
Larger canvases ship rolled in a rigid tube; anything under roughly 60 centimetres travels stretched and varnished, ready to hang. Both options are noted on each piece before you add it to the cart, so there is no surprise at the door.
What does a numbered print include?
Every giclée is signed, numbered and printed on cotton rag with pigment inks rated for long display life. Editions are fixed — once a run of forty or sixty sells through, it is not reprinted at a different size.
Can I combine a painting with a print?
Yes. The cart handles mixed orders, including greeting card packs, and everything is packed together unless the sizes make that unwise. If a canvas needs separate crating, that is arranged before dispatch.
When do commissions open?
Twice a year, in autumn and late spring, with a limited number of slots each round. Collectors usually bring a specific view or palette — a stretch of coastline, a family farm, a particular hour of light — and we agree on size and surface before any paint is mixed.
How is a piece matched to a wall?
Send a photo of the space and the dimensions you are working with. The studio can suggest a framing profile or a scale that suits the room, and will say plainly when a work is the wrong fit.
What if something arrives damaged?
Keep the packaging and photograph the box before opening it fully. Report the problem through Support and a replacement or repair is arranged; the same route covers questions about an order already in transit.

Still unsure which series fits your space? Reach the studio through Contact and describe the room, the light and the wall.

Clarifications before you order

A few terms in this catalogue get read in more than one way. Here is how the studio actually applies them, so nothing about a painting, a print or a commission is left open to interpretation.

Original versus print

An original is the single painted surface made in the studio, signed on the reverse with its title and year. A giclée print is a reproduction of that painting, produced in a numbered run and signed in pencil below the image. Buying a print does not transfer any rights to the original work.

What "edition size" means

The number listed for each print is the total run for that image, not the quantity currently in stock. Once a run closes it is not reprinted at a different size. Small collectible studies are one-offs and carry no edition number at all.

Stretched or rolled

Canvas originals can leave the studio either stretched on a frame or rolled in a tube. Stretched work arrives ready to hang but ships in a crate; rolled work is lighter and cheaper to send but needs a framer to re-stretch it. The choice is made at checkout, not after dispatch.

Dimensions and colour

Measurements are given in centimetres, height before width, and describe the painted surface only — not the frame or the border of a print. Screens vary, so a deep teal on your monitor may sit closer to green in daylight. If an exact match matters, ask for a photograph of the piece in natural light before you commit.

Commissions

Commission slots open twice a year and are limited by studio time, not by demand. A commission is a new painting based on a view or palette you describe; it is not a copy of an existing work in the catalogue. Sketches are shared for approval before the final canvas is started.

Combining items in the cart

A painting, a print and a pack of greeting cards can sit in the same cart, but they do not always ship together. Prints and cards are packed flat; canvases travel separately. Where an order splits, you will see it noted before payment rather than discovering it at the door.
